What is Dexcom CGM?
Dexcom CGM provides real-time glucose readings and automatically sends your glucose numbers to your compatible smartphone or smartwatch †, so you’ll easily know where you’re at and where you’re heading.
Unlike fingerpricks‡ that give you a number for a single point in time, Dexcom CGM lets you see your glucose data continuously, so you can know when your glucose levels are trending high, low, or when you’re good to go – so it’s easier to make diabetes management decisions.

From October 1st, Dexcom CGM is now funded for New Zealanders living with type 1 diabetes.*
To be eligible, you need to be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and other forms of diabetes similar in impact to type 1 diabetes.* If you’re unsure about your diagnosis, your doctor or diabetes specialist team can assist you.
Your doctor or a member of your diabetes specialist team will apply for funding – this is called a special authority application.
- Once you have a special authority your GP or diabetes specialist team can write funded prescriptions for CGMs. You will need a new prescription every three months.
- You will need to go to your pharmacy to pick up your prescription. You may need to pay a co-payment (usually $5) at the pharmacy if you do not qualify for free prescriptions.
